The Move -Checklist

 

Things To Do:

  • Contact physicians/dentists. Get recommendations for colleagues at the new location. Ask for renewal prescriptions; arrange forwarding of records.
  • Arrange for transfer of school records.
  • Throw away, give away, or sell unwanted items in garage, basement and attic.
  • Close out checking and savings accounts.
  • Empty safety deposit boxes, inculding stocks, bonds, insurance policies, title or evidence of ownership, will.
  • Make arrangements to transport aluables that household movers cannot handle. Remember, they have no liability for valuable documents, currency, stamp or coin collections, and jewelry.
  • Notify friend or relative of route you're taking and travel schedule.
  • Make motel or hotel reservations if needed during move.
  • Get certified cheque or money order to pay van operators.
  • Clean, defrost and thoroughly dry refrigerator the day before the move.
  • Give friends perishables and plants that won't make the trip.
  • Leave information pertinent to sale of your home with new owner or your lawyer.

  • Certified cheque in the amount required to close on new home
  • Maps
  • Cash, money orders or travelers cheques
  • Credit cards
  • Games for the kids
  • First-aid kit
  • Snacks
  • Food for pets travelling with you
  • Jewelry and other valuables
  • Items you'll need when arriving a new home (cleaning supplies, towels, toiletries, light bulbs, and coffee pot)
